The University Membership Program at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum provides colleges and universities the opportunity to offer all students and their faculty complimentary admission to the museum year-round. This benefit enables faculty to utilize the museum for numerous teaching opportunities and students to visit the museum for both research and enjoyment. The Gardner Museum is unique in that it offers many different ways to explore: from the story of Isabella Stewart Gardner and her place in Boston history, to the enigmatic installation of the museum galleries by Gardner designed to engage the senses and encourage personal meaning making on the part of the visitor, to the surprising pleasure of the tranquil courtyard garden.

The rich array of cultural offerings in the Boston area appeals to many students who choose to attend school here. Within that context, the Gardner Museum is a particularly special museum and one that is readily accessible to your students. The University Membership Program encourages art appreciation and cultural literacy through:

  • Complimentary admission to the museum year-round  to students and their faculty
  • Complimentary admission to our interdisciplinary public programs comprised of topics in historic art, contemporary art, art education, horticulture, and music
  • Complimentary admission to our newest program, Gardner After Hours, which occurs on the third Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 9:30 pm. After Hours invites student to gather their friends to participate in concerts, artist performances, and thematic tours of the collection.
  • Flexible scheduling for faculty-led student group visits to the museum.
